Mary J. Blige Brings Signature Boots to Vegas in Balmain Heelless Pair

Mary J. Blige has taken her iconic boots to Las Vegas. The R&B singer is there for her first residency, which takes place at the Dolby Live at Park MGM. “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts joined her in Sin City to go behind the scenes with Blige for an interview about the new residency that highlights her 30-year music career.

For the interview, which aired on Wednesday, the “No More Drama” singer slipped into the Balmain No Wedge smooth leather ankle boots in black. The boots feature gaiter-style draping, a sharp pointed toe with an engraved PB logo on the gold metallic detail decorating the base of the inner heel, in honor of the brand’s founder Pierre Balmain.

The shoes feature a leather outsole, insole and lining made of 100 percent calfskin leather. The feature a distinct wedge-like heelless sculptural design, which makes it appear as if the foot is floating on its own. The boots provide a 3.7-inch lift. They retail for $1,895, and are also available in a beige, red and gray suede.

Blige took the stage to perform during the opening night of her Vegas residency on Friday. She wore an array of ensembles, which most included her go-to boots, varying from ankle boots to sparkly thigh high designs. For one look, the singer sported an all purple look created by contemporary designer Fjolla Haxhismajli with matching ankle boots.

The boots featured a stretch fabric upper, a pointed toe and a conservative high block heel, which are a popular on-stage style for performers. Haxhismajli also designed the all-white look Blige wore on stage with matching boots.

The “Be Without You” singer has been working with stylist Jeremy Haynes to put the looks together. For another segment of the show, she wore a head-to-toe tiger print ensemble created by Todd Fisher, who specializes in luxury faux fur with white thigh high boots by Jennifer Le, a brand Blige often wears.

Blige recently appeared on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” to promote her residency. She arrived in an off-the-shoulder black and white mini blazer dress with the Christian Louboutin Circus Max Botta Alta in black, which are made from veau velours, mesh and kid leather, and retail for $3,295.

During the interview, Blige opened about her signature knee-high boots style, which have become part of her brand, even landing her a boot collaboration with Giuseppe Zanotti. The singer told Hudson that her love for thigh-highs came from her environment while living in New York.

“The boots came when I was living in Yonkers. The drug dealer chicks used to wear them. They had all the money. So they used to wear the the long fur coats and and thigh-high boots,” Blige said. “They inspired me and I was like, ‘Well, when I get some money, I’m getting those boots.’ And now I can’t stop buying these boots because I got some money. [Laughs.] So all of that stuff was inspired by the chicks that had money when we didn’t.”
