Taiwan president vows to ensure stability for global AI supply chain

Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te said on Tuesday that his administration will do its best to maintain “peace and stability” in East Asia while affirming Taiwan’s “indispensable” role in the soaring global artificial intelligence (AI) industry.

Stressing that “industrial development and prosperity must be built on the foundation of peace,” Lai said his government “will resolutely safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and do its best to maintain the status quo.”

Lai said this position “is Taiwan’s most responsible commitment to the global high technology supply chain.”

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the annual COMPUTEX technology exhibition in the Taipei World Trade Center, Lai said “the more the world needs AI, the more it needs a Taiwan that is stable, trustworthy and capable of bearing responsibility.”

Taiwan is riding an export boom on AI, and Lai observed that Taiwan’s first quarter real economic growth rate reached 14.55% and annual expansion is now forecast at 9.64%.

Lai assured the global AI industry that Taiwan will have no problem in ensuring water, electricity and land for AI and high technology investment.

The president also said Taiwan “will have no problems with electricity supply through 2032,” and promised to “continue promoting our Energy Transition 2.0 so that where technology develops, it will be supported by stable power.”

Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) chairman James Huang Chih-fang said COMPUTEX 2026, which is running under the theme “AI Together,” broke records in its over four-decade history with more than 60,000 registered visitors and more than 1,500 companies, as well as some 6,000 booths from 33 countries.
