Espionage trial against German-Russian trio begins in Munich
The trial of three men accused of working for the Russian secret service is set to begin on Tuesday at a regional court in the southern German city of Munich.
The men are accused of planning sabotage operations against military infrastructure and railway lines in Germany.
The leader of the trio is also alleged to have fought in Ukraine as part of an armed terrorist organization.
The case caused a stir about a year ago when police in the German state of Bavaria arrested two of the men. More than 40 court hearings are scheduled until December 23.
Just last week, a similar case came to light when three Ukrainians were arrested in Germany and Switzerland. It is suspected that they were recruited by Russian authorities to carry out acts of sabotage in Germany.
The trial is scheduled to begin at 10 am (0800 GMT) at the Higher Regional Court in Munich.
