Bidders sought for seasonal ferry route

A ferry operator is being sought to run services between Alderney and the French city of Cherbourg during peak tourist season.

States of Alderney officials said they were inviting expressions of interests for the service which is proposed to run from the end of May to the end of September 2026.

It is proposed the Alderney-Cherbourg route involve double ferry rotations three times a week, including Fridays and Sundays, the States said.

Stuart Clark, chairman of the Economic Development Committee, said improved access to the north of France had the potential to benefit residents and tourists.

“Seasonal ferry services have played an important role in enhancing Alderney’s connectivity and supporting our visitor economy,” he said.

“While our links to Guernsey and Jersey remain well established, opportunities to strengthen connections with France – particularly Cherbourg – represent an exciting market that the committee believes should be explored.”

The closing date for submissions is 6 March.
