Charly Quivrant Gets Very, Very Barreled on French Sandbars

This video below from Charly Quivront is four and a half minutes long. Approximately 99% of it is exclusively French surfers finding wonderfully hollow sand bottom tubes. There’s a running joke surfers use about the fickle nature of scoring waves in southwest France. It’s something along the lines of, “If you want to surf at high tide, and you pull up the beach at high tide, it’s already too late.”

It’s said in jest, but it holds true, especially for those who have searched Hossegor high and low for a nice tapered wave. Getting waves anywhere close to what is embedded below requires no small amount of insider knowledge, tube savvy and just plain luck.

Charly, a 29-year-old from Royan, is a talented Frenchman chasing the Challenger Series and publishing eye-popping freesurf parts. He’s the star of this show, a beautiful run of swell that arrived in France just after Christmas. A late gift, but who’s complaining?

Forget holiday treats, these guys stuffed themselves silly with a gluttony of barrels before 2024 came to a close. “Crazy couple of days of insane swell hits the French coastline to end the Year with a bang!” Charly wrote. “No better way to enjoy home with friends and family before heading into the New Year!!”
