Erdoğan to discuss ‘regional cooperation’ on Saudi Arabia, Egypt tour
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is visiting Saudi Arabia on Tuesday and Egypt on Wednesday to discuss deepening bilateral ties alongside regional and global developments, according to his communications office.
In Riyadh, Erdoğan is scheduled to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to review steps for deepening diplomatic and economic links, the office said on X late on Monday.
On Wednesday, Erdoğan will travel to Cairo to co-chair the second meeting of the Turkey–Egypt strategic cooperation council with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi for talks “with particular focus on Palestine,” said Erdoğan’s office.
Erdoğan is also slated to attend a business forum while in the Egyptian capital.
The back-to-back visits come as Ankara seeks to rebuild security and diplomatic ties with key Middle Eastern partners following the war in Gaza, while simultaneously boosting trade and investment, state news agency Anadolu reported on Tuesday.
The visits reflect a desire from Saudi Arabia and Egypt for closer coordination with Turkey, Anadolu further noted.
This shift comes amid heightened concerns over the risk of a wider regional conflict and growing doubts over the reliability of US security guarantees, the agency added.
