Malaysia cuts Ron95 petrol price to RM1.99 ahead of Sabah state election, Budget 2026

For the first time, foreigners are allowed to purchase Ron95 petrol at RM2.60 per litre

[KUALA LUMPUR] Malaysians will soon pay less at the pump than drivers in oil-rich Saudi Arabia, after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim cut the price of Ron95 petrol to RM1.99 (S$0.61) a litre from Sep 30 – just a few weeks before he tables Budget 2026 in Parliament.

The move marks the first adjustment to the capped price of RM2.05 since February 2021, said Anwar in a statement on Monday.

The government said more than 16 million citizens will benefit from the cheaper fuel, which remains heavily subsidised compared with regional peers.
