  1. Origin story, please! Vellachor has such a strong identity what was the “aha” moment when you knew you had to launch your own label?

ELLA TITUS: Vellachor has such a strong identity what was the “aha” moment when you knew you had to launch your own label? I taught myself to sew when I was 5 years old and never stopped. Starting my own label has been my dream ever since! I grew up also going to my Grandfather’s antique store and that is definitely where I found my creative voice and the inspiration and identity for the brand. The name Vellachor itself was inspired by a word that is used to describe the feeling of nostalgia one gets from the scent of old books and antiques.

       2. The vibe check. If you had to sum up Vellachor’s style in three words, what would they be and why?

ELLA TITUS: If you had to sum up Vellachor’s style in three words, what would they be and why? I have four pillars that I used to describe Vellachor and my designs. Romance, Artistry, Nostalgia and Whimsy.

       3. Behind the seams. What’s your creative ritual like? Do ideas hit you in random moments, or do you have a design process you stick to?

ELLA TITUS: What’s your creative ritual like? Do ideas hit you in random moments, or do you have a design process you stick to? Ideas tend to strike me at random moments, and whenever there is one I can’t get out of my mind I know that I have to make that design a reality! I usually collect a few of those stand out ideas and use them as the foundation of an entire collection. Then I begin my sketching and sampling process.

       4. Fashion with a conscience. We hear so much about sustainability and craftsmanship right now how do those values play into the way you build Vellachor?

ELLA TITUS: We hear so much about sustainability and craftsmanship right now how do those values play into the way you build Vellachor? Vellachor is a made to order, small batch brand, meaning we create excess waste by creating and holding stock of numerous pieces! They are only made as orders are placed to prevent fabric waste as much as possible. We also strive to source deadstock materials whenever possible for our designs.

        5. The Vellachor muse. Who do you imagine slipping into your designs? Describe the kind of woman who embodies the Vellachor spirit.

ELLA TITUS: Who do you imagine slipping into your designs? Describe the kind of woman who embodies the Vellachor spirit. A girl who loves to romanticize life, she enjoys art museums, antique shopping, and high quality, luxury garments. She is incredibly chic and has an old soul.     

        6. Spill the tea. What’s next for Vellachor? Any collabs, dream projects, or upcoming drops you can let us in on?

ELLA TITUS: What’s next for Vellachor? Any collabs, dream projects, or upcoming drops you can let us in on? We are currently showing our 4th collection worldwide in New York, London, Paris and Milan! After our “world tour” we will be releasing the collection to the public on our website, and of course taking custom commissions as always! Our next goal and dream is to start working with bridal show room and boutiques to help brides find their dream dress with Vellachor!
