Mets Predicted To Reunite With $135 Million Fan Favorite This Winter
The New York Mets are aggressively chasing Juan Soto this offseason, but more importantly, they’re chasing success and a better roster. If they happen to miss on Soto, New York still can upgrade its roster.
Beyond Soto, the team’s top priority is re-signing the fan-favorite first baseman, Pete Alonso. Alonso has garnered interest from teams like the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and the Mets this winter following another solid year in 2024.
Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report recently predicted Alonso would re-sign with the Mets this winter, even pitching a projected contract length and value for the slugger.

“Pete Alonso has hit 40-plus home runs on three occasions. Last season was seen as a down year, and he still hit 34 home runs with 88 RBI and a .788 OPS,” Kelly wrote. “He’s entering his age-30 season, and we’ve projected a five-year, $135 million deal. Is that really that much of a risk for one of the elite power hitters in the sport?”
As part of the same article, Kelly predicts Soto to re-sign with the Yankees. With that in mind, re-signing Alonso on a five-year, $135 million deal would make a lot of sense for the Mets. However, I doubt that Alonso signs for that low of a number.
Instead, the slugger will likely be looking for a deal north of $150 million this winter and he should have no shortage of suitors. The Mets will likely be willing to pay more than the number projected by Kelly, especially if they don’t land Soto.
