Tombolo Recreates 1976 ‘SNL’ Staff Shirt for New Capsule Collection
Tombolo has joined “Saturday Night Live‘s” 50th anniversary celebrations with a capsule collection inspired by a custom shirt gifted to the show’s 1976 cast and crew. Unveiled on Wednesday, the collection features three pieces inspired by the shirt, while fans can also enter an online giveaway for a personalized souvenir jacket.

The Tombolo x “SNL” collaboration was an idea of the show’s costume designer, Tom Broecker, who reached out to the brand after a conversation with cast member Bowen Yang about their clothes. Broecker, who’s been part of the show since 1986, dove into the “SNL” archive and found a shirt crafted exclusively for cast and crew in 1976. The shirt featured the show’s original working title, “Saturday Night,” chain-stitched in metallic thread and was personalized with the wearer’s role on the show, “Writer,” “Designer,” “Cast,” etc.

Tombolo recreated the shirts for the current cast and staff members.
“We meticulously recreated the shirt for the current cast and crew, updating the material for a slinky, chalky fabric that feels at once swanky and playful,” the brand said via statement.
The shirt is not for sale. However, the capsule also includes three other pieces inspired by the original “SNL” cast, including the “TomPolo,” a polo shirt featuring a chain-stitched version of the show’s musical note logo and embossed SNL50 buttons; a cabana shirt with the same logo and buttons, and Souvenir Jacket, a bomber jacket featuring chain-stitching of the musical “SNL” logo and “Live from New York” graphic on the back.
“It’s the ultimate ‘SNL’ fan collectible, produced in very limited numbers,” the brand said.

A personalized “SNL” souvenir jacket will only be available through an online giveaway open to U.S. residents. “Participants enter the giveaway by subscribing and giving their name and email address either through the tombolocompany.com website on the designated webpage or through an Instagram advertisement,” the brand said in a statement.
A winner will be selected on Feb. 28 at 11:59 p.m. EST. and will receive a “SNL” souvenir jacket and the option to personalize it with chain-stitched embroidery of up to 12 characters sewn on the garment.
